Capacity for load discrimination and control
It is a capacity of some smart meters to distinguish between different loads and turn these loads on or off independently. For example, an air conditioning system may be connected to a separate rail of the meter and be controllable by the energy company.
This capability represents a cause for concern. If used, it represents an attempt by an energy company to dictate load, representing a violation of the demarcation of their service interface and an attempt to shirk their duty to meet that interface (demarcation violation, remit violation, attempted shirking of duty).
