Intel Ethernet Adapters/V1
Supports only Intel transceivers
Status: Current — The violation is standing.
Intel makes Ethernet adapters. Where such adapters take SFP, SFP+ or similar transceivers, they accept only Intel-made transceivers, despite the fact that these are standard components.
- The transceiver's EEPROM can be reprogrammed to have Cisco's vendor ID, causing it to be accepted. There are mail-in services which will perform this change, for a fee.
- For at least the ixgbe(4) Linux kernel module, passing allow_unsupported_sfp=1 to the driver circumvents the compatibility check
