OVLOCKEX Violation

Supports only Extreme transceivers

Status: Current — The violation is standing.

Extreme Networks networking equipment often includes SFP, SFP+, or similar transceiver slots. These accept only Extreme-made transceivers, despite the fact that these are standard components.

Status[edit]

There appear to be indications that Extreme have reneged on this practice in newer models. Older devices remain affected. However, see this.

Workarounds[edit]

  • The transceiver's EEPROM can be reprogrammed to have Extreme's vendor ID, causing it to be accepted. There are mail-in services which will perform this change, for a fee.
