Cisco Networking Equipment/V1
By default, supports only Cisco transceivers
Status: Current — The violation is standing.
Cisco networking equipment often includes SFP, SFP+, or similar transceiver slots. These accept only Cisco-made transceivers, despite the fact that these are standard components.
- A command,
service unsupported-transceiver(or in some cases,
no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid) can enable third-party transceivers. These commands are hidden and undocumented, and cannot be found via contextual help.
- The transceiver's EEPROM can be reprogrammed to have Cisco's vendor ID, causing it to be accepted. There are mail-in services which will perform this change, for a fee.
